Teams such as Alabama and Florida made Week 5 statements with impressive SEC wins that rattled much of what we thought we knew about the conference.
A big win for one team translates into a big loss for another and, ultimately, big miscues.
Here’s a look at a few of the less-than-stellar moments from around the SEC in Week 5.
5. Stone Hands
We’ll give Malachi Dupre a little bit of a break considering that LSU won its game over Eastern Michigan. LSU allowed the Colonels to stay somewhat close through the first half and into the third. The sophomore’s missed touchdown catch would have made the game 33-14, instead the Tigers settled for a field goal and went on to win handily 44-22. Dupre finished with one catch for 19 yards and one big “what if,” had he held onto the 5-yard pass from Brandon Harris. The New Orleans native leads LSU with 122 yards on the year and has caught one of the Tigers’ two receiving touchdowns this season.
4. The Tweets Seats
They gave former players the worst seats ever in Neyland they had us sitting 5 rows from the last row in available seats Smh!! @DBL_L_01

Not sure which is worse, that Tennessee makes its former players sit in the nose-bleed-seats or Jabari Davis’ Twitter rant after the Vols’ Week 5 loss to Arkansas at Neyland Stadium. The former Volunteer running back apparently wasn’t too happy with his seat location and the fact that he got kicked out of the tunnel by a security guard. You be the judge. Is Juice’s excoriation of UT justified?
3. Stone Hands Redux
Guys with rocks for fingers appears to be our theme in Week 5. T.J. Holloman had two interceptions in his debut as a starting linebacker last week for South Carolina. The senior would probably like another attempt at jumping this pass route from the Tigers’ Drew Lock, only this time with the ball. The almost guaranteed pick-six would have tied the contest for the Gamecocks and swung momentum in their favor. Missouri was forced to punt on the next play, but South Carolina closed out the game with an interception and two punts on its final three drives after Holloman’s drop.
2. Look, Ma! No Hands
Want to know what kind of week it was for Ole Miss? Look no further than the Rebels’ second drive of the game. Already trailing 7-0, Jaylen Walton coughed up the football on the Ole Miss 24-yard line, which was recovered by Florida’s Bryan Cox Jr. Five plays later, Gators quarterback Will Grier hit tight end Jake McGee for a 2-yard touchdown and the 38-10 upset was in the works.
1. Silence of the Lamberts
Greyson Lambert did not have a good day during Week 5’s heavyweight battle against Alabama. The junior quarterback connected for just 86 yards on 10 of his 24 passes, with one of them falling into Crimson Tide hands. The Bulldogs were slapped around 38-10 on a soggy day between the hedges. While Jake Coker was efficiently marching the Tide downfield all afternoon on 11 of 16 passing for 190 yards, Lambert was in and out of the lineup due to throws at weren’t exactly throws. The Bulldogs quarterback finished with a dubious three fumbles, losing one of them.
