Zach Arnett avoids giving in-depth answer on early impressions as first-year HC
Zach Arnett couldn’t answer a question about his impressions of being a first-year head coach during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday.
He hasn’t had time to reflect on what it’s been like so far as he’s been locked in week in and week out preparing for his next game. And perhaps that answer tells you everything you need to know about being a first-year head coach in the SEC, you don’t have the time or energy to think about it — you just have to get through one week at a time.
“I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think that’s a good or a fair question right now in the middle of the season because to me those are things that you reflect on and can answer better at the end of the season,” Arnett said. “Because right now … you’re so go, go, go right now preparing for the next game, it’s very hard to give you a thorough, in-depth answer there, and good reflection on all that stuff because you’re just trying to make sure you’re prepared for practice, make sure you have a good game plan in, make sure you’re prepared for the next opponent, all the different situations that come up. So I apologize I can’t give you a big thorough in-depth answer on all that stuff, but I think that’s a better question for after the season.”
Arnett has had a decent start to his time coaching in the SEC, going 2-3 on the season so far with a chance to even up the record this weekend against Western Michigan.
Arnett has been with the Bulldogs since 2020 and took over as head coach after Mike Leach passed away at the end of last season.
