Oklahoma softball is one of the true juggernauts of college athletics, and the opening-round opponent for the Sooners was not exactly thrilled to see Oklahoma to begin the NCAA Tournament.

Oklahoma is on a historic tear, capturing the last four Women’s College World Series titles in college softball. The Sooners also had back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017, meaning they have a chance to produce 7 total titles in a 10-year span of the sport — and that includes the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Tournament due to COVID.

With that body of work, it’s easy to see why some teams might legitimately be uninterested in facing Oklahoma. Well, Boston U appears to be among those teams, but that’s bad news for the Terriers.

During Selection Sunday, Oklahoma was awarded the No. 2 overall seed in the tournament, and Boston U was revealed as the opening opponent for the Norman Regional. Needless to say, the live look-in at the Terriers during Sunday’s reveal says it all.

Now, Boston U has to try and adjust its mindset to attempting to play the role of giant slayer, but that is undeniably easier said than done. The Sooners have advanced all the way to the WCWS Finals in 5 straight NCAA Tournaments, and the last time they failed to advance to the Super Regionals came back in 2009!
