Oklahoma is the No. 1 seed in the SEC Softball Tournament, having put together an impressive 17-7 SEC record and a 43-7 overall record this season.
After earning a double-bye in this week’s SEC Tournament in Athens, Oklahoma took the field for the first time against No. 9 seed LSU on Thursday morning. The Sooners sent Sam Landry to the circle and she did not disappoint.
Oklahoma cruised to a 4-1 win over LSU to get Thursday’s 4-game quarterfinal slate started, with Landry having a day to remember. She only allowed 1 hit in the victory:
Landry pitched the first 5 innings without allowing a hit. The solo blemish on her outing came in the top of the 6th inning, when an LSU hitter reached first on a fielder’s choice. The next batter, Jalia Lassiter, delivered the Tigers’ only hit, advancing the runner to second base. Landry walked the next LSU batter and then Tori Edwards hit a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers their only run.
Landry returned for the 7th inning and shut down the Tigers once again. She finished the game with 7 strikeouts while allowing only 1 hit.
For the Sooners’ offense, Cydney Sanders delivered the biggest hit, launching a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 5th inning. She finished the game with 3 RBI, having also picked 1 up in the 1st inning when she was hit by a pitch.
Oklahoma advances to Friday’s semifinals, where it will face either No. 4 seed Tennessee or No. 5 seed Arkansas.
