The NCAA Softball Tournament is geared up and ready to get rolling with the regional round this week. The full bracket for the tournament was revealed on Sunday, and it was yet another historic outing for SEC softball teams.
This year, the SEC is sending a total of 14 teams to the field, including No. 1 overall seed Texas A&M. That breaks the SEC’s own record for most teams in a single NCAA Tournament.
The SEC originally set the mark at 13 teams in 2017. The conference would tie that mark in 2018, 2019 and 2024.
Within the total record, the SEC also produced 9 national host sites. That ties a record that the SEC set in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, with the league also producing 7 of the top 8 overall seeds in this year’s tournament.
Texas A&M is the No. 1 overall seed in this year’s tournament while Oklahoma, in its first season as an SEC participant, is the No. 2 overall seed after the two squads split the SEC Tournament title. The Sooners have won the last 4 Women’s College World Series, while the last team to win the WCWS for the SEC was Florida in 2015.
The regional round begins this weekend with teams fighting for a spot at the WCWS. The WCWS will be played in Oklahoma City from May 29 through June 5/6.
