The SEC Softball Tournament will no longer hold a championship game. Oklahoma and Texas A&M have been declared co-champions.

The weather in Athens is to blame for the championship game’s cancellation. Late Friday, the SEC announced a schedule change from 5 p.m. ET to 1 p.m. ET for first pitch of Saturday’s championship game. While the conference anticipated inclement weather, it turned out that the new time was not early enough to beat Mother Nature. The game entered a weather delay before first pitch and was ultimately canceled.

Oklahoma and Texas A&M were the top 2 seeds in the SEC Softball Tournament. Both teams received double-byes to the quarterfinals and won 2 games in Athens to reach the championship.

OU also won the conference regular-season championship in its first year of SEC play. The Sooners have a 45-7 overall record, going 17-7 in conference contests. Oklahoma posted wins over LSU (5-0) and Arkansas (8-6) in quarterfinals and semifinals.

Texas A&M secured its highest seed in program history after a second-place finish in the regular season. As the No. 2 seed, the Aggies defeated South Carolina (6-2) and Texas (14-2, 5 innings).

Oklahoma, Texas A&M and many other SEC teams will learn their NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday when the bracket is revealed.
