Texas is not done defending its national championship. The No. 2-seeded Longhorns held off Mississippi State 4-0 to stay alive in the Women’s College World Series.
It was the first elimination game of this year’s WCWS. With Mississippi State’s exit, the field in Oklahoma City is down to 7 teams. Arkansas and UCLA will play the next elimination game.

It turned out Longhorn pitchers did not need any more run support, but the bats added two more. Kayden Henry had a solo homer in the 5th inning and Viviana Martinez added another insurance with an RBI double in the 7th.
On the mound, it was a complete game for Teagan Kavan. She allowed just 4 hits over the 7-inning shutout, with 2 strikeouts in her 25 batters faced on 78 pitches (54 strikes).
Texas will play again on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET. The Longhorns will play another elimination game against the loser of Saturday’s Tennessee vs. Texas Tech winner’s bracket game.
