Do Hugh believe in miracles?

Team USA just won the gold medal with a 2-1 overtime victory over Canada, thanks to an electric shot from New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes. The standout center barely beat the outstretched glove of Canadian goalie Jordan Binnington during a 3-on-3 overtime.

“That’s American Hockey right there,” Hughes said after the win. Here’s a look at the game-winner:

Hughes made sure to shout out American goalie Connor Hellebuyck following the game, insisting he had a fantastic outing that won Team USA the gold. And it’s hard to disagree. Hellebuyck recorded an incredible 41 saves and protected what very well could have been a 3-1 or 4-1 game, doing enough to take the match to sudden death overtime.

Hellebuyck was doing stuff like this constantly throughout the matchup. I mean, what do you even say about this save?

Matt Boldy deserves some credit, too. The Minnesota Wild forward scored the first goal of the game for Team USA, assisted by Auston Matthews and Quinn Hughes.

It was a high degree of difficulty for Boldy. Here’s a look at the shot, through Canada’s Cale Makar and Jonathan Toews.

Incredibly, Team USA’s win over Canada comes 46 years to the day of the Miracle on Ice. Of course, this is Team USA’s first gold medal in hockey since that fateful win over the Soviet Union in 1980.

Fire up Free Bird.
