Liam Doyle has learned his professional home. The St. Louis Cardinals took the pitcher out of Tennessee with the No. 5 overall pick in Round 1.
A 6-2 left-hander, Doyle joined the Volunteers for the third and final season of his college career. He previously played for Ole Miss (2024) and Coastal Carolina (2023).
At UT, Doyle made 19 appearances, including 17 starts, in the 2025 season. Doyle set the Tennessee record for strikeouts with 164, a rate of 15.43 Ks per 9 innings to lead the country.
Over 95.2 IP, Doyle had an ERA of 3.20 and a record of 10-4 with 1 save. He faced 385 batters, who posted an average of just .184 facing the Tennessee ace. Doyle walked just 32 batters
Doyle’s sensational season on Rocky Top earned him Perfect Game‘s Pitcher of the Year honor and an inclusion as a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award. He was also named SEC Pitcher of the Year and a first-team All-American by numerous publications.
In 2024, Doyle made 16 appearances on the mound at Ole Miss, including 11 starts. He was the Rebels’ strikeout leader with 84 for the year.
Doyle played his freshman season at Coastal Carolina. He pitched in 23 games, including 7 starts. Doyle had a 4.15 ERA with 69 Ks over 56.1 IP in 2023.
