Shai Gilgeous-Alexander breaks Wilt Chamberlain’s record in Oklahoma City’s win over Boston

The last two NBA regular seasons have been Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s world. Fortunately for us, we’re living in it. The former Kentucky Wildcat has dominated the association two years running, winning MVP and the NBA Finals in 2024-25 and positioning himself to repeat both feats in 2025-26. Then, on Thursday, he did the unthinkable: surpassing a Wilt Chamberlain record.

With 7:04 left in the third quarter, SGA splashed a long two-pointer over Boston’s Baylor Scheierman to crack the 20-point mark. In the process, he vaulted above Wilt the Stilt for the most consecutive 20-point games in NBA history.

Chamberlain’s mark would have been much longer if not for an ejection just four minutes into game No. 127 on his potential streak. After getting tossed, he rattled off 92 straight games with 20-plus points. But now, he holds the second- and third-longest such streaks, thanks to SGA’s remarkable consistency. And even though SGA’s brand of basketball gets bashed at times, some of his detractors can still applaud the absurdity of this accomplishment.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are 3.5 games clear of the San Antonio Spurs for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. If they can hang on to that spot, they’re going to be very tough to topple in the playoffs. OKC and SGA return to the floor on Sunday versus the Minnesota Timberwolves (1 p.m. ET., ABC).
