The Atlanta Falcons announced on Friday that they have placed No. 1 wide receiver Calvin Ridley on the non-football injured reserved list. This is for players who are unable to practice because of a non-football injury. The Falcons’ announcement notes that per league rules, a player placed on the NFI list has to miss – at a minimum – 3 weeks.

Ridley decided to step away from football for a while because he had been dealing with some off-the-field issues concerning his mental health. The former Alabama standout released a statement Sunday via social media to explain why he was stepping away for a bit.

Ridley has been struggling with some personal issues and decided to take a break to work on himself and the Falcons have allowed him to do so.

Ridley has not given a date for his return. Ridley has caught 2 touchdown passes for 281 yards.
