Calvin Ridley missed his second game in 3 weeks on Sunday, and later issued a personal statement about the decision to explain his perspective on the absences.

Ridley shared on social media that, “I need to step away from football at this time and focus on my mental wellbeing. This will help me be the best version of myself now and in the future.”

He thanked the Atlanta Falcons, as well as fans, family and friends for their support.

Before this statement, the Falcons receiver previously described the situation as personal. Ridley briefly discussed the personal issue when he spoke with the media on Oct. 21 — the last time he talked with the media — but declined to get into detail about what he’s been dealing with, ESPN reported.

“I mean, in today’s world, me personally, it shouldn’t matter, you should mind your business,” Ridley said about understanding why people would be interested in what’s going on. “But in today’s world, yeah, I do. To me, if I say it’s personal, that means it’s personal.”

Ridley has 31 catches for 281 yards and 2 touchdowns this season.
