Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was expected to be a big part of the offense this year, but things changed on the third play of the season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers when he got injured.
The injury happened on the third play of the season, when Worthy was running a crossing route and ran into tight end Travis Kelce. He left the game and didn’t come back and is now expected to miss some time.
Right now, the expectations are that he will be able to return for the Chiefs at some point. However, there is still more testing that the team has to do, and season-ending surgery is something that could still happen.
The loss of Worthy could be big for the Chiefs, as they are without Rashee Rice for the first 6 games of the season due to a suspension stemming from an offseason driving incident.
Worthy was drafted No. 28 last year in the NFL Draft after running a 4.22 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. That was the fastest time in the history of the combine, and Chiefs fans were hoping his speed would help bring them back to the high-flying offensive days.
The former Texas standout delivered in his rookie year, finishing with 59 catches for 638 yards and nine total touchdowns. The Chiefs are in a big spot already in Week 2, as they host the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch from last year’s Super Bowl.
