Cordarrelle Patterson has put together quite an NFL career after playing his college football at Tennessee. He has played 12 seasons in the NFL, spending the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He entered training camp still a member of the team. However, he announced on social media that he had been released, giving a shoutout to the famous move “Friday.”
“Breakings news, Pittsburgh Steelers released old washed up Cordarrelle Patterson on his day off,” Patterson tweeted.
During his time in the NFL, he has proven to be an extremely versatile player. He has played running back and wide receiver, and has combined for 5,521 yards of total offense and scored 39 touchdowns.
However, it has been on special teams where he has made his mark, as he is arguably the best kick returner in NFL history. He leads the league all-time with 9 kickoffs for touchdowns, bursting onto the scene with the Minnesota Vikings in 2013.
In his rookie year, he returned 43 kicks for 1,393 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a return for an NFL record 109 yards.
It is still early in training camp, so there could be opportunities still popping up for Patterson. However, judging by his post on X, there is a possibility that Patterson may be done with his playing career.
