Dan Orlovsky joined ESPN’s “Get Up” Friday morning to share his thoughts on the 2023 NFL Draft. While Orlovsky has a clear choice for which player he would take with the No. 1 overall pick, he admitted he would have a few reservations in passing on one prospect.

According to Orlovsky, the Carolina Panthers need to take Bryce Young with the first pick. However, Anthony Richardson is the player Orlovsky would have some hesitation about passing up for what Richardson could become in the future.

“If you’re Carolina, you take Bryce Young. Now you live with a little regret not taking Anthony Richardson because of what he potentially becomes, but you take Bryce Young,” said Orlovsky, “And it’s because the No. 1 thing that you need to have as a QB to become great over an extended period of time: What do you do with the ball in moments of panic?”

Young’s creativity when plays break down is the best Orlovsky has seen since Joe Burrow. Orlovsky cited that as reasoning for comparing Young to a bit of Steph Curry plus Burrow:

“He’s the best at it. He’s the best since Joe Burrow. That’s why Bryce is a combination of Steph Curry plus Joe Burrow,” Orlovksy explained. “That’s the difference between him and all the young guys in this draft… Now I would live with a little bit of reservation of what Anthony Richardson could become, but Bryce Young because of that quality.”

Outlook for the No. 1 pick

Orlovsky is not the only one in love with Bryce Young as the top pick in the draft. Young is the betting favorite to go No. 1 overall and has been projected to become the top pick in the draft by Mel Kiper Jr.
