With the New England Patriots’ 10-7 victory over the Denver Broncos in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, Patriots second-year star Drake Maye is set to become the second-youngest quarterback to ever reach a Super Bowl.
Maye, who led the Patriots to their 12th AFC title in near-blizzard conditions in Denver, will be 23 years and 162 days old on Feb. 8 when New England faces the NFC champion – either the Seattle Seahawks or the Los Angeles Rams – in Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino was 23 years and 127 days old when he played in his one and only Super Bowl. Marino’s Dolphins lost 38-16 to the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XIX on Jan. 20, 1985.
The Patriots will be attempting to win their seventh Super Bowl – the most in NFL history – with Maye under center. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of North Carolina, Maye turned in an MVP-level season in 2025 with 4,394 passing yards and 31 touchdowns.
Maye turned in a pedestrian effort against the Broncos in rapidly worsening conditions, completing just 10-of-21 pass attempts for 86 yards. He also rushed 10 times for 65 yards against the Broncos.
Marino threw for 5,084 yards and 48 touchdowns in 1984, and completed 29-of-50 attempts for 318 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions in the Super Bowl against the 49ers.
