After 2 seasons in ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” booth, Brian Griese is getting into coaching. Griese will be the new quarterbacks coach of the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 49ers were looking for a new quarterbacks coach after Mark Stoops hired Rich Scangarello to be Kentucky’s new offensive coordinator following the departure of Liam Coen.
In his tweeted report, Schefter referred to Griese as a former MNF analyst. There had not been a formal announcement from either party that Griese was out of the “Monday Night Football” booth, but last month it was reported that ESPN is nearing a deal with Troy Aikman to be its new lead analyst. Aikman will reportedly make $17.5 million per year calling MNF.
Former Monday Night Football analyst Brian Griese is leaving ESPN to become the Quarterbacks Coach for the 49ers, sources tell @SethWickersham and me. Griese and Kyle Shanahan have known each other for years; Griese played QB in Tampa when Shanahan was on the Bucs coaching staff.
