ESPN NFL analyst Randy Moss will be replaced on the network’s Monday Night Countdown show, according to a report from New York Post’s Andrew Marchand.

ESPN will replace Moss with former NFL quarterback and ESPN NFL analyst Robert Griffin III. Moss will remain with the company as an analyst for Sunday NFL Countdown.

The move was reportedly Moss’s preference to work in a lesser role. He will be cutting down his workload from two NFL shows during the season to only Sunday NFL Countdown. Moss joined ESPN in July 2016 and was a part of the network’s in-studio coverage on Sundays and Mondays.

Moss’s exit will make room for Griffin to work on the pre-game show for Monday Night Football. Griffin joined ESPN in 2021 and he began working as a college football color commentator and an analyst on ESPN’s college football and NFL programs.

Griffin last played in the NFL in 2020 and signed with ESPN in the beginning of 2021. While Griffin never fully closed the door on a return to the NFL, he will likely remain in place at ESPN with his new role. Griffin had a clause in his ESPN contract that allowed him to leave for an opportunity in the NFL.

He is expected to continue announcing college football games for ESPN in 2022. With just one year as an analyst at ESPN, Griffin quickly worked his way into a bigger position for ESPN’s NFL coverage.
