An NFL head coach has reportedly already been fired coming out of Week 5 of the league season.
According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, the New York Jets are parting ways with head coach Robert Saleh. The head coach had a year left on his current contract but things have not gone as expected under his tenure.

New York had high expectations entering last season after landing Aaron Rodgers, but those expectations were short-lived. Rodgers would suffer an Achilles injury in the season opener before the Jets struggled throughout 2023.
With Rodgers back for 2024, expectations were once again high, but the results have not followed. New York gave up 32 points in a season-opening loss to San Francisco and has just a 2-3 record to open the season.
The past 2 weeks have been especially ugly with the Jets scoring just 26 combined points in home losses to the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings.
The move is somewhere surprising considering the start of the rest of the AFC East so far this season. The Jets are currently tied for 2nd in the division with the Buffalo Bills holding a 1-game lead in the division at 3-2 overall.
New York has played just one game so far within the division — a 24-3 win over the New England Patriots — so there is still plenty of time to get things turned around. However, it looks like franchise leadership wanted a new voice to make that happen.
