Former Auburn defensive back and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers starter Jamel Dean entered Sunday’s Week 3 in the NFL with 1 career pro touchdown to his name.

It didn’t take him long to double that total, as Dean stepped in front of a Tyrod Taylor pass attempt for a 55-yard interception return to give the Buccaneers a 20-6 halftime lead.

Taylor and the Jets were attempting to drive into field goal range late in the first half against Tampa Bay when Taylor, who started in place of the injured Justin Fields, lofted a deep out route toward receiver Garrett Wilson. Dean broke on the football and outraced the Jets to the end zone at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

Dean’s previous Pick-6 came in his second season with Tampa Bay in 2020, delivering a 32-yard interception return for a score against the Green Bay Packers in a 38-10 Week 7 victory.

Dean, who was drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers with the 94th overall pick, now has 8 interceptions in his 7-year career. Dean started his collegiate career as a medical redshirt at Ohio State before transferring to Auburn in 2016. He played two seasons with the Tigers, recording 44 solo tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions and a sack before foregoing his senior season to turn pro.
