The final few weeks of the National Football League season often delivers firsts for rookies, and that was no exception Sunday in Week 17 – as former Florida defensive back Jason Marshall Jr. nicked his first NFL interception.

Marshall, a 5th-round selection this year by the Miami Dolphins at pick No. 150, picked off a Baker Mayfield pass midway through the second quarter. The interception was the Tampa Bay quarterback’s ninth of the season.

Marshall has appeared in 11 games for the Dolphins in 2025, and made his first NFL start in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals. He notched 3 solo tackles in that game, which equaled his 3-tackle effort in Week 10 against the Buffalo Bills. Heading into Sunday’s game, Marshall had 10 solo tackles, 2 pass deflections and 1 quarterback hit.

Marshall started 7 games for Florida before a season-ending injury curtailed his senior season in 2024. Marshall finished his collegiate career with 68 solo tackles, 27 passes defended, 2 interceptions and 1 forced fumble.

The Dolphins entered Week 17 tied for 25th in the NFL with just 7 interceptions. Miami has been ravaged by injury in the defensive backfield, with Minkah Fitzpatrick out for Week 17 and Elijah Campbell, Storm Duck, Kader Kohou, JuJu Brents, Artie Burns and Isaiah Johnson all on injured reserve.
