Former Florida offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor will be released before the start of the season, barring a trade, according to Adam Schefter.
Taylor signed a four-year, $80 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs back in March of 2023. Taylor started 17 games for the Chiefs during their Super Bowl run in 2023. He also started all 4 playoff games.
With Taylor’s release, the Chiefs are expected to save $20 million under the cap.
Taylor started in all 12 of his appearances this past year. Towards the end of December, Taylor was placed on injured reserve due to an elbow injury and would end his season on IR.
Since joining the Chiefs in 2023, Taylor has been the NFL’s most penalized player with 49 flags. After a dip in his performance last season, this move was expected, considering the Chiefs were also over the cap limit.
Taylor became a starter at the University of Florida as a true freshman in 2016. He would then play 3 years for the Gators before forgoing his senior year and declaring for the 2019 NFL Draft.
In the draft, Taylor would be selected 35th overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Florida native spent 4 seasons with the Jaguars, in which he started every regular-season game at right tackle and played nearly every snap.
