Former Florida offensive lineman Trent Brown, who is in his first season with the Houston Texans, had hoped to be able to play in Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round game against the New England Patriots.

After being held out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday before returning on Friday — albeit limited — Brown has been ruled inactive for the contest. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Brown “tried to go pregame” as he tested his ankle out. Instead, he’s been shut down for the day.

Green has played for six teams in 11 seasons during his NFL career. That includes a season with the Patriots in 2018, with whom he won Super Bowl LIII. He was also named a Pro Bowler with the then-Oakland Raiders in 2019.

He was a seventh-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2015 and spent three seasons with them before being traded to the Patriots. After two seasons with the Raiders, he returned to New England for three seasons before an injury-abbreviated stint with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024.

After beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card Round, the Texans are in their third straight Divisional Round game and seventh overall in franchise history. But they have lost all six of their previous tries.
