Former Mizzou quarterback Brady Cook was hoping to be part of a New York Jets quarterback room that included Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor.
Unfortunately, Cook’s hopes of making the Jets’ 53-man roster have been dashed. The rookie has been waived, the team announced on Tuesday.
Cook was an undrafted free agent after 5 seasons at Mizzou. After limited action in 2020 and 2021, he eventually became the starter in 2022, remaining the Tigers’ QB1 for the following 3 seasons. For his career, Cook threw for 9,251 yards, 50 touchdowns, and just 15 interceptions. His best season came in 2023, where he totaled 3,317 yards and 21 touchdowns while tossing just 6 INTs.
After going undrafted, Cook signed with the Jets. He played in their preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, completing 6 of his 8 passes for 62 yards. He then faced the New York Giants and was 6-of-11 for 74 yards, throwing a touchdown. Cook then started the Jets’ preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, going 13-of-19 for 99 yards and an interception.
Cook will be able to sign with another NFL team once he clears waivers. The Jets could also opt to sign him at that point as a practice squad player.
