Former Texas standout T’Vondre Sweat is on the move in the NFL, as the Tennessee Titans have reportedly dealt the defensive tackle to the New York Jets for pass rusher Jermaine Johnson.
ESPN reported the move, a rare player-for-player swap, Thursday morning. The trade will be officially processed when the 2026-27 league year officially begins on March 11.
A 6-foot-2, 366-pound interior presence, Sweat moves to a Jets team carrying a team-friendly contract that will count only $1.7 million toward New York’s salary cap next season. A second-round selection at No. 38 overall in 2024, Sweat recorded 85 tackles and 3 sacks in 29 games for the Titans. But Sweat sustained an ankle injury in Tennessee’s 2025 season-opening loss to the Broncos and missed five games last season.
By trading away Johnson, the Jets have moved on from 3 substantial pieces of their defense within the past 6 months, also trading former first-round picks Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams in November.
The Jets hold the No. 2 pick in this year’s NFL Draft and, according to Kalshi, have less than a 30% chance to make the NFL Playoffs next season.
Johnson reunites with Titans coach Robert Saleh, who coached the Jets when they selected the former Florida State standout with the 26th overall pick in the 2022 draft. Johnson, a one-time Georgia player, recorded just 3 sacks in 2025 and has 1 year remaining on a fifth-year option contract worth a guaranteed $13.4 million in 2026.
