Jalen Carter apologizes for spitting ejection, vows to be better

Former Georgia star and current Philadelphia Eagles’ pass rusher Jalen Carter made the first big headline of the new NFL season last night when he was ejected from Philly’s game against the Dallas Cowboys before the first snap for spitting on star Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott.
The Eagles would go on to squeak out a 24-20 win over their rivals in the absence of their star defensive lineman, but the ejection still overshadowed anything that happened during the game.
Carter spoke on the whole ordeal after the matchup, apologizing to both his teammates and the fans in Philly for the ejection, and vowing to be better moving forward.
“It was a mistake that happened on my side, and it just won’t happen again,” Carter said. “I feel bad for my teammates and the fans out there. I’m doing it for them. … Not being able to start the game, even finish the game, it f—ed me up, but we’re going to get it better. It won’t happen again. I can make that promise.”
Prescott revealed after the game that the incident started after he spit on the ground near Carter and Carter felt that action was directed at him. Prescott took offense to any insinuation that he would spit on a player and had words for Carter.
“Didn’t realize he was getting ejected. Unfortunate that he did,” Prescott said. “He is a hell of a player.”
There’s no denying the immense talent that Carter possesses, but incidents like this have been overshadowing his elite on-field performance since he was still suiting up for the Dawgs in college.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said after the game that any further discipline for Carter would be handled in-house.
