The New York Giants announced earlier this week that rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart would receive his first-career start against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, and the former Ole Miss gunslinger has already managed to find the end zone.

During their first drive of the game, Dart and the Giants offense found themselves set up in a 1st-and-10 scenario at the 15-yard line. Dart caught the snap and took one look at the defense before he took off on a draw, and the rookie went untouched to the end zone for the first touchdown of his NFL career.

It’s hard to imagine that Brian Daboll could have hoped for better from Dart’s opening possession, and with the game approaching halftime, the former Rebel has posted some solid numbers thus far. Dart has completed 7-of-11 passes for 59 yards, and he’s also the Giants’ leading rusher with 44 yards and the added score.

Unfortunately for Dart, Malik Nabers–who already had two catches on the day to lead the team–went down with an injury earlier in the game and had to be carted off the field. Thus, more emphasis will likely be placed on the Giants’ ground game behind the legs of Dart and Cam Skattebo.

New York currently leads Los Angeles 13-3 with just under two minutes left before halftime.
