Nashville Mayor John Cooper has asked the Tennessee Titans to postpone their game against the Houston Texans, on Saturday, set for a noon local time kickoff, amid rolling blackouts.
The request comes after the Tennessee Valley Authority announced Saturday morning that all power distributors in the area should immediately drop 10% of their electricity load, WKRN reported.
“I’ve been informed that TVA’s unilateral rolling blackouts will continue,” he wrote on social media. “All non-essential businesses should reduce power usage. I’ve asked the @Titans to postpone their 12pm game in solidarity with our neighbors. TVA needs to invest in infrastructure to withstand extreme temps.”
The TVA earlier Saturday wrote, “Due to continued unprecedented cold temps resulting in high power demand, TVA has directed local power companies to reduce load. Planned intermittent interruptions support system reliability. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we manage this unprecedented demand.”
