Odell Beckham Jr. calls on NFL to make major rule change following Malik Nabers injury
“And that time, the turf monster got him.”
You’ve probably heard this phrase — or some variation of it — in a football broadcast. Traditionally, it’s used when a player slips/falls trying to set up a move in the open field. At MetLife Stadium, though, “turf monster” has taken on a meaning of its own. And Odell Beckham Jr. wants the NFL to step in and stop its’ onslaught.
Early Sunday night, OBJ went to Twitter and begged the NFL to remove turf fields. The call came after fellow former LSU star receiver Malik Nabers left his team’s game versus the Los Angeles Chargers after reportedly tearing his ACL.
Beckham, having torn his ACL twice in the NFL, knows exactly what potentially awaits Nabers in his upcoming rehab process. He also unfortunately knows what it’s like to play at “DeathLife” Stadium — as Beckham referred to it in a later social media post — a place where numerous players have suffered season-ending injuries in recent years.
MetLife Stadium converted to a grass field for the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, but reinstalled its turf afterward ahead of the 2025 NFL campaign. The NFLPA blasted that move when it occurred in June.
