With the New Orleans Saints looking for a spark during its game against the Tampa Buccaneers, quarterback Spencer Rattler has been benched in favor of rookie Tyler Shough. The Saints made the move during the third quarter while trailing 17-3.
Prior to being benched, the 6-foot Rattler completed 15 of his 21 passes for 136 yards and an interception while being sacked 3 times.
The 25-year-old Rattler is in his second NFL season after being drafted by the Saints in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. During his college career, Rattler was a First-team All-Big 12 selection while at Oklahoma. Rattler completed his college career at South Carolina from 2022-2023. Rattler racked up 10,807 yards with 77 touchdowns (32 interceptions) while in college.
The Saints selected the 6-foot-5 Shough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Prior to this game, the 26-year-old Shough only saw action on Sept. 21 vs. the Seattle Seahawks, with both of his passes incomplete.
Shough played for 3 teams during his college career: Oregon (2018-2020), Texas Tech (2021-2023), and Louisville (2024). Shough amassed 7,820 yards, 59 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions in college.
