Shedeur Sanders rejected Ravens’ draft approach, per Adam Schefter report

Shedeur Sanders apparently came close to being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens.
That’s according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who revealed that the Ravens had sought to take the former Colorado quarterback with their fifth-round pick, the 141st overall.
“But before the Ravens could turn in the card, (Sanders) let it be known to Baltimore that he didn’t want to be on a roster with Lamar Jackson, where he wouldn’t have a chance to play anytime soon,” Schefter reported.
Sanders ultimately did go in the fifth round, and to an AFC North team, at that. The Browns selected him 3 picks later.
Ironically, Sanders isn’t even a backup in Cleveland. He’s third on the depth chart behind veteran Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel. What’s more, the Browns had already taken Gabriel in the 3rd round before selecting Sanders.
If you ask his father, Deion Sanders — and certainly Mel Kiper Jr. — Shedeur was drafted about 4 rounds too late.
We’ll see if the rookie ultimately gets his chance to be a starter in the NFL. From the looks of it, at least for now, that opportunity won’t come for a while unless he ends up getting traded from Cleveland.
