South Carolina legend Jadeveon Clowney has signed a contract with the Dallas Cowboys, team owner Jerry Jones said, according to a report by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

The 3-time Pro Bowl edge rusher is heading to Dallas to begin the latest chapter of his long NFL career, Jones reportedly confirmed after the Cowboys’ overtime victory over the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon. The report isn’t totally a surprise, as the 32-year-old free agent visited the Cowboys last week.

Clowney was released by the Carolina Panthers on May 8, getting sent packing after just 1 season of a 2-year contract he signed with the Panthers in 2023.

Apparently, Clowney decided Dallas was where he wanted to continue an NFL career that began after he was the first overall pick of the 2014 draft by the Houston Texans. Clowney was rewarded after he starred at South Carolina from 2011-13, being named a first-team All-American in 2012 and 2013 with the Gamecocks. He was the 2012 SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

In his 11 seasons in the NFL, Clowney has piled up 58 sacks, 139 quarterback hits, 409 tackles and 15 forced fumbles.

Now, the Rock Hill, S.C., native who went on to become one of the best players in South Carolina history is apparently ready to start a new chapter of his career with one of the signature franchises of the NFL.
