Tom Brady had a short retirement after all.
The legendary NFL quarterback, who announced he would step away from the game about 2 months ago, on Sunday wrote on social media that he had “unfinished business” and said he would return to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This will be his 23rd season “in Tampa,” he said.
Brady previously cited family time as his main reason for retirement. The 44-year-old Brady in his previous announcement explained that he would rather spend time with with his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, and 3 children. Brady left, and now returns, after he led the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl title last season and NFC South championship this season.
All of this comes when Brady is at the top of the NFL.
Brady led the NFL in yards passing (5,316), touchdowns (43), completions (485) and attempts (719) in 2021 in a season in which the Bucs lost at home to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round.
Brady, the only player to win more than 5 Super Bowls and was MVP of the game 5 times, stands as the NFL career leader in yards passing (84,520) and TDs (624).
“These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG.”
