Tua Tagovailoa, after spending 6 seasons with the Miami Dolphins, is expected to sign a 1-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Tagovailoa, a former Alabama quarterback who tore Georgia fans’ hearts out with a game-winning throw in the 2018 national championship game, needed a change of scenery in a bad way. He spent 6 years with Miami and suffered multiple injuries, including several concussions that put his career in serious jeopardy.
Atlanta is a great landing place for Tagovailoa, who will compete with Michael Penix — another left-handed quarterback — in the Falcons’ system. Atlanta announced a few weeks ago that it would be parting with backup Kirk Cousins.
Tagovailoa put together some great seasons in Miami, specifically 2022 and 2023. The former Alabama quarterback threw for 4,624 yards with 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 2023, but fell to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round. For his career, Tagovailoa has so far totaled 18,166 yards, 120 touchdowns and 59 interceptions across 6 seasons.
As it currently stands, Atlanta has a 21% chance to win the NFC South in 2026. Here’s a look at the odds for other NFC South teams, per Kalshi:
