Ty Simpson makes Joel Klatt’s top 10 offensive players in NFL Draft
Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson had a solid first — and only — season as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback. He completed 64.5% of his passes for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns and 5 interceptions while guiding Alabama to the College Football Playoff. His success, though, was marred by a benching in the CFP Quarterfinals versus Indiana. As a result, his status in NFL mock drafts plummeted from a near top-10 lock to possible first-round selection.
Heading into the NFL Draft process, opinions on Simpson’s viability as a franchise quarterback vary. But Joel Klatt remains a steadfast supporter of Simpson. On Monday, Klatt released his top 10 offensive players of the 2026 NFL Draft and placed Simpson at No. 10.
Simpson was the only player from the SEC on Klatt’s list. The 23-year-old passer is one of two quarterbacks in Klatt’s rankings, alongside presumptive No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza.
At this time, Simpson is not a common sight among the top 10 of NFL mock drafts. However, Kalshi gives him the 22nd-best percentage (17%) of being selected in that range. If his benching against the Hoosiers was more injury-related than performance-related, as has been suggested, he has a real opportunity to boost his stock back to where it was in November. The 2026 NFL Draft begins on Apr. 23.
