When Lexington Christian Academy football coach Doug Charles saw the damage the flood waters did to neighboring Breathitt High School, he went into action.
“I was just raised that when you see a need, a person in need, that you do everything that you can to try to help,” Charles said in an interview with FOX 56. “The coaching fraternity in football, everyone thinks we’re these bitter rivals, but really the fraternity is really strong.”
The waters damaged much of Breathitt High School and filled its football locker room with several feet of muddy water.
On Sunday, the Lexington Christian Academy football team went into Breathitt and took part in the clean-up process.

The players helped clean the school’s facilities and bleachers. Charles told WYMT.com that the team will take trophies, pads and other football equipment from Breathitt back to Lexington for a deep cleaning and restoration.
Breathitt County football coach Kyle Moore is grateful for the strength of the coaching fraternity in Kentucky.
“We can come through it with the help of each other and God,” Moore said. “We got a lot of people hurting, if there’s anybody out there that can’t make it down to help us, prayer is much appreciated.”
