The CFL Grey Cup kicked off from Vancouver on Sunday night. For those who don’t know, the Grey Cup is Canada’s version of the Super Bowl.
This year’s Grey Cup features the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Toronto Argonauts. Just like in the NFL, CFL teams gather at midfield before the game for a coin toss. The visiting team gets to choose heads or tails, and then whoever wins the toss gets to decide if they wish to kick or receive.
During the Grey Cup coin toss, the head official got a little ahead of himself. The referee gave the coin to the honorary flipper, who proceeded to flip the coin. However, the referee forgot to ask the Argonauts to call heads or tails, leading to an awkward exchange.

However, the ref handled it gracefully and was able to laugh it off. The coin toss was redone and this time, everything went off without a hitch. Winnipeg won the coin toss and elected to receive.
At the beginning of the 2nd quarter, Winnipeg had a 7-3 lead over Toronto. The Blue Bombers are in the Grey Cup for the 5th straight season, while the Argonauts return after last appearing in 2022. The Argonauts have won more Grey Cups than any other CFL team.
American football fans may recognize several players in this game, like Lucky Whitehead and Ka’Deem Carey. This game concludes the 2024 CFL season, with play set to resume in June 2025.
