Arizona Cardinals reportedly make decision on new head coach
The Arizona Cardinals have reportedly settled on their next head coach.
Jonathan Gannon, the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator, is set to become the new coach of the Cardinals, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported. This is the last head coach opening of this hiring cycle and it means the Eagles now are losing both their defensive and offensive coordinators, on the same day, 2 days after they appeared in the Super Bowl. Shane Steichen was introduced as the new Indianapolis Colts coach earlier Tuesday.
Before Philadelphia, Gannon served as the defensive backs/ cornerbacks coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2018-20, working alongside Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.
The other 2 finalists for the job were Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
The 40-year-old Gannon had been the Eagles’ defensive coordinator for the past 2 seasons and immediately made an impact. He turned Philadelphia into a top-10 defense in his first year, and this season the Eagles ranked No. 2 in the league while boasting two Pro Bowlers, ESPN reported.
