Hollywood Brown out of hospital after injury in preseason game
Hollywood Brown’s Kansas City Chiefs debut did not go as planned.
Brown had to leave after one snap of the Chiefs’ preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation and was taken to a Jacksonville hospital.
The good news Sunday from ESPN’s Adam Schefter is that Brown is out of the hospital and cleared to return to Kansas City.
Chiefs WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who suffered a dislocation of his sternoclavicular shoulder joint Saturday night, was discharged from a Jacksonville-area hospital this morning and now has been cleared to return to Kansas City.

Brown to be sidelined
When Chiefs coach Andy Reid commented on Brown’s injury in his postgame press coach, he noted that it was the same injury Tyreek Hill suffered during the 2019 season.
“I think he’ll miss some time,” Reid said of Brown, per the transcript. “We’ll just see where it’s at, I mean, I said that they’re kind of going through it right now and we’ll know more later on.”
Hill’s injury occurred on Sept. 8, 2019, Kansas City’s season opener. He would not return until Oct. 13, 2019, missing four games over four weeks.
No two bodies are the same. It’s too early to know if Brown will be back in action in four weeks like Hill.
Unlike Hill, Brown recovers while the Chiefs play preseason games. Kansas City begins its 2024 season with a Thursday night game on Sept. 5, which is less than four weeks away. The Chiefs then play on Sunday, Sept. 15, in Week 2.
On Saturday night, rookie Xavier Worthy subbed in when Brown went down. It could be a preview of what’s to come with Brown out.
The Chiefs are back-to-back defending Super Bowl champions. Entering this offseason, though, it was no secret that the club felt it needed to upgrade its personnel at wide receiver.
In hopes of restoring some of the speed that has been missing since Tyreek Hill left for Miami, Kansas City signed Brown and drafted Worthy, who set an NFL Combine record with his 40-yard dash time, at No. 28 overall.
At DraftKings Sportsbook, the line for Worthy’s rookie receiving yards is set at over/under 750.5. Over is priced at -135, meaning it would take a wager of $135 to win $100 for a $235 payout on Worthy recording 751 yards or more in the 2024 regular season. The under, meanwhile, is priced at +110, for a potential $210 payout on a $100 wager.
Post-draft, Worthy’s over/under was set at 800.5 yards. At that time, the over was priced at +115 and the under at -140.
DraftKings has not moved the over/under on Worthy’s receiving touchdown numbers. The rookie from Texas has an over/under of 4.5 receiving scores in regular-season action. Over is currently priced at -135, with the under at +110.
With Brown sidelined for likely the next few weeks, it could present an opportunity for Worthy – and those interested in betting on his rookie season.
