There are a lot of tough situations in football, but few that rival having to cut your own kin from a football team.

That’s exactly what Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson did this week, though, waiving tight end Josh Pederson as all teams moved forward into slimming down to a 53-man roster.

Pederson originally signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent in 2o21 but was waived on Aug. 4, by the team. The New Orleans Saints acquired him a couple of days later, but then waived him on Aug. 21.

He was a standout at ULL, honored as a part of the first-team All-Sun Belt in 2019 and second-team All-Sun Belt in 2020. Pederson reeled in 43 receptions for 567 yards and nine touchdowns during that season.

Quite the journeyman, he had a small stint with the Kansas City Chiefs on a reserve/future contract in 2022 before he was waived in May. He then saw time in the USFL with the Houston Gamblers in 2023, recording 24 receptions for 325 yards over 10 games.

Where he lands next and if he can find his ultimate landing spot with a chance at a 53-man roster will be something to keep an eye on.
