The Washington Football Team has a new name — the Commanders.

The franchise announced the new moniker Wednesday morning after an 18-month name search. The team will keep the same colors burgundy and gold.

The Commanders used to be named the Redskins and actually used to win. Now, however, the franchise struggles and has posted just 5 winning seasons this century.

The Commanders beat out reported other names such as the Armada, Red Hogs, Red Wolves and Defenders, among others.

Washington has won 3 Super Bowls in its proud history — 1982, 1987 and 1991 — and hopes to one day return to glory in the NFL.
