Calling it a temporary decision, N.C. State became the latest ACC program to pause its athletic-related activities. The school said in a news release that the decision is based on an identified cluster within its programs.
The school said the athletics department continue to follow all established protocols in consultation with campus and local health officials. WRAL reported there are 27 cases among the Wolfpack, though not all are athletes.
“Based on the information available to us, we are making the necessary and swift decision to pause athletic-related activities until we have additional information,” said Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan. “We will continue to work with all appropriate parties to evaluate the most responsible path moving forward and will provide further details when available.”
Last week, North Carolina paused activities while it shifted to an online-only academic format following a breakout of positive COVID-19 cases among its students. And about a week ago, Notre Dame, which is competing for an ACC championship this season, paused football practice after it said five players tested positive.
On The Paul Finebaum Show on Monday, New York Times writer Billy Witz said, “The foundations that are here at the moment are very fragile and feel very shaky.”
