NC State quarterback Grayson McCall was carted off the field during Saturday’s game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons after he took a scary hit to the head in the first quarter.
It was an emotional scene on Saturday as trainers put a neck brace on McCall and multiple NC State players walked off the field crying. McCall appeared to hug his mother before he was carted off the field, covering his eyes but raising up two fingers before he left.
There were no flags on the play as it was ruled a legal hit. NC State eventually scored off the turnover.

The NC State quarterback was taken to WakeMed hospital for further evaluation, according to The CW broadcast.
McCall finished out the game 3-for-5 passing for 42 yards. He also had 1 rushing attempt for 9 yards. McCall was replaced by freshman quarterback CJ Bailey, who started the previous 2 games while McCall was dealing with a separate injury.
The Coastal Carolina transfer has a history of concussions. He suffered a hit to the head last year that brought an end to his 2023 season. It also raised some concerns about his health and whether he should continue to play football.
Saturday’s first quarter ended with Wake Forest holding a 10-3 lead.
