Jalen Washington leads UNC to win over NC State with clutch final sequence
Jalen Washington had a clutch final sequence on Saturday to lead the North Carolina Tar Heels to a win over the NC State Wolfpack.
Late in the 2nd half, the game was tied at 61. Washington got the ball down in the paint and slammed down a monstrous dunk to put his team ahead with 25 seconds to play. On the other end, Wolfpack guard Jayden Taylor drove to the basket looking to tie the game once again, and Washington came out of nowhere with a huge block to seal the win.
Here’s a replay of Washington’s big moment:
The win moved the Tar Heels to 11-6 on the season and 4-1 in ACC play. The loss knocked the Wolfpack to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in conference matchups.
Washington ended the game with 11 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 blocks. Ian Jackson led the Tar Heels in points, scoring 21 on the day and adding 1 steal, 1 assist, and 1 rebound. Ven-Allen Lubin came up big off the bench, grabbing 9 rebounds, 1 block, and 4 points.
In 2024-25, Washington is seeing his first action as a starter. The junior forward is averaging 5.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game this season.
The Tar Heels are now off until next Wednesday when the Cal Golden Bears come to town. Then, next Saturday, the Tar Heels will welcome Stanford to town for another ACC matchup. The much-anticipated rivalry matchup with Duke will take place on Feb 1.
