Mack Brown intends to remain at North Carolina beyond 2024 season, per report
Mack Brown may be sticking around for another season in Chapel Hill.
Brown, 73, has long been the subject of retirement rumors during his second stint at UNC. The expectation that Brown would step aside amicably after the 2024 season peaked earlier this year in the midst of a 4-game losing streak.
However, according to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Brown is privately telling staff, players and recruits that he intends to remain as UNC’s head coach in 2025.

Since UNC’s 4-game skid in the middle of the season, the Tar Heels have recovered well with 3 consecutive wins. Carolina has already achieved bowl eligibility with 2 games remaining.
North Carolina’s recruiting has suffered a bit over the past couple of cycles as speculation over Brown’s future remains. UNC only has 11 commits in the class of 2025 so far. The group ranks 69th nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
Since Brown took over as UNC’s coach at the start of the 2019 season, the Tar Heels have been bowl-eligible in each season. A postseason streak of 6 consecutive years is 1 off of Carolina’s all-time record of 7, which was set during Brown’s first stint in Chapel Hill.
North Carolina will go on the road to face Boston College in Week 13.
