Following loss to Alabama, Brian Kelly has bizarre advice for Notre Dame fans
After starting the year 10-0, Notre Dame has ended the 2020 campaign with back-to-back blowout losses, falling to Clemson (34-10) and Alabama (31-14) by a combined score of 65-24.
Brian Kelly, however, is telling fans of the Golden Domers to step back from the ledge.
“Notre Dame nation: you guys can get some sleep, recharge our batteries and we’re going to be back in this position again so you don’t need to jump off a bridge,” Kelly shared as his message to the Notre Dame fanbase, per Miles Garrett of WSBT.
Kelly presumably means competing for the national title by being “back in this position.” The rest of the college football community would likely counter that Notre Dame’s “position” would be another blowout loss in a big-time bowl game.
Dating back to the 2000 season, the Fighting Irish are 0-7 on the big stage of BCS/New Year’s Six/College Football Playoff games. In addition to the 31-14 loss Friday, Notre Dame has also been on the losing end of 41-9, 41-14 and 30-3 games this century.
Brian Kelly concludes the season with a message to the fans:
“Notre Dame nation: you guys can get some sleep, recharge our batteries and we’re going to be back in this position again so you don’t need to jump off a bridge.”

He’s right you know. The CFP loves to put Notre Dame in there just to get knocked out in the semi finals because their name gets good TV ratings. So I’m sure we will be seeing them again sometime soon along with the usual Bama, Clemson, and OSU we see every single year with no changes whatsoever.
. . . and Brian Kelly will continue to lose the big games. Nothing to see here.
I’m actually curious as to how much of a ratings boost Notre Dame really is in 2020.
Notre Lame gets special treatment, simple as that, folks.
Notre Dame is the home of touchdown Jesus & they wear those cool golden helmets…Isn’t that special ?
31-14 is a margin closed by two touchdowns and a field goal. Anybody who thinks that’s a blow-out is a blow-hard. Just accept that Alabama won and had a safe margin for most of the game. Notre Dame may or may not have been the 3rd or fourth best team in the nation. This score just didn’t tell us.
It wasn’t a blowout, sure, but there was zero doubt who the better team was throughout the game. Bama had an excellent first quarter and then played pretty average the rest of the way. ND killing the clock didn’t help either but it’s up to the D to stop that 8 minute drive.
Notre Dame only pulled to within three possessions with 56 seconds left in the game. They were never in position to even get within 2 scores after the half.
That’s a blowout.
If your point is that Notre Dame’s being down by ONLY “two touchdowns and a field goal” isn’t a blowout, when the Tide controlled the game from start to finish, I’m not sure what sport you’re watching.
Wolfman is the same guy that brags about Missouri only losing by 19… His math isn’t good either as he call 19 points a two score game…
wolfman is a Mizzou fan…What a strange fan base.
2 touchdowns with 2 point conversion and a FG. 19 points in 3 scores. Not a fan of the wolf but his math is spot on.
How is a 17 point win not a blow out especially considering Bama was up by 24 with less than a minute left?
I’m sure they WILL be back in this position, but that shouldn’t GIVE them the benefit of doubt over other deserving teams!
