Notre Dame is inching closer to the College Football Playoff conversation as the Fighting Irish prepare to take on Navy in a top-25 matchup this weekend.

In ESPN’s latest CFP projection, Notre Dame finds itself just barely on the outskirts of the 12-team field. ESPN included the Fighting Irish in the “first 4 out” section of this week’s projection, alongside Iowa State, Kansas State and Illinois.

Notre Dame remains on thin ice due to its home loss to Northern Illinois from back in Week 2, but the Irish have recovered well from that defeat. They enter Week 9 on a 4-game winning streak, with 3 of those victories coming in blowout fashion.

Here’s some analysis from ESPN on the Fighting Irish:

Every week is a must-win for the Irish, who have been playing with playoff fire since their home loss to Northern Illinois. ESPN Analytics gives the Irish a 91.1% chance to win on Saturday.

Notre Dame is a big favorite in Vegas this weekend against an undefeated Navy team. The Irish are favored by 13.5 points in this neutral-site showdown, per the latest lines from bet365.

Notre Dame is 80-13-1 all-time against the Midshipmen. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
