Notre Dame lands on bubble in ESPN's latest College Football Playoff projection
Notre Dame is back on the College Football Playoff bubble after picking up a couple of wins, according to ESPN’s latest CFP projections.
The Fighting Irish fell off the bubble following their shocking loss to Northern Illinois back in Week 2. However, they have responded with blowout wins over Purdue and Miami (Ohio) in back to back weeks.
That brief win streak has earned Notre Dame a spot in ESPN’s “first four out” of its updated College Football Playoff bubble projection. The Fighting Irish are joined by Clemson, USC and Michigan in that group.
Notre Dame has a huge opportunity to bolster its playoff résumé this weekend against a top-25 Louisville team in South Bend.
Here’s some analysis on Notre Dame from ESPN’s Heather Dinich:
The winner of Saturday’s game against Louisville will see its chance to reach the playoff climb to around 50%, but if Notre Dame loses? The Irish’s playoff hopes will nosedive to 11%. No Week 5 game will have a greater impact on the CFP race, according to ESPN Analytics.
Notre Dame lost to Louisville 33-20 on the road last season, making this something of a revenge game for Marcus Freeman’s team. The Fighting Irish turned the ball over 5 times in that loss.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
two blowout wins against the little sisters of the poor and they’re back in the playoff picture? Riiiiiight.
Umm….Notre Dame gets in the early discussion with a loss to Northern Illinois??? How about put LSU in the early discussion with a loss to USCw?? How about Tennessee?
