Brent Venables announced on Monday evening that Jackson Arnold will be the team’s starting quarterback on Saturday against Ole Miss.

Venables made that decision public during his weekly coaches show. Arnold led Oklahoma on a couple scoring drives against South Carolina on Saturday after replacing freshman Michael Hawkins Jr., who was benched following a series of turnovers in the first half.

Arnold began the year as Oklahoma’s starter but was benched midway through OU’s loss to Tennessee in late September. He didn’t see the field again until he was called upon in the first half against the Gamecocks on Saturday.

Arnold completed 18-of-36 passes for 225 yards and 1 touchdown against the Gamecocks.

This has been a chaotic week for Oklahoma, as Venables announced on Sunday night that the program has parted ways with offensive coordinator Seth Littrell after just 7 games in that role. OU will elevate Joe Jon Finley into the primary play-caller role while offensive analyst Kevin Johns will join the on-field coaching staff for the rest of the season. Johns previously served as the OC at Duke.

Oklahoma is a 20.5-point underdog on the road at Ole Miss this weekend. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
