Dillon Gabriel could be playing for a 3rd team in his college career after declaring his intent to enter the portal on Monday.

With the transfer portal officially opened, the Oklahoma quarterback headed for the exit after 2 seasons in Norman. Gabriel accounted for 3,660 yards passing with 42 total touchdowns.

Here’s what Gabriel had to say:

“The past 2 years here at OU as a Sooner I have made memories with friends and family that remind me how blessed I am. My time in the palace was a game time experience I will never forget,” said Gabriel. “Sooner Nation, you held me accountable and I am better for it. Coach BV, my coaches, and the football staff, I am grateful for your care, knowledge, and insight. Most of all thanks for your faith in me and the opportunity to lead and be a member of team 128 and 129.”

Gabriel played in 24 games for the Sooners over the past 2 seasons as starting quarterback.

Oklahoma missed out on a spot in the Big 12 Championship after losses to Kansas and Oklahoma State. The Sooners still had their best regular season finish of the Brent Venables era at 10-2, however.

It will be hard for Venables to find a player to replace Gabriel.
